The first burn of a candle is the most important!

Did you know that candles have memory? The first burn of a candle is the most important! If a candle isn’t burned long enough for the wax to reach the edges of the container, it will create a “memory ring”. If this happens, the candle will only burn up until that point each time it is burned. Make sure on the first burn you allow the wax pool or reach the edges of the container. After that, the candle memory will allow the candle to burn evenly, without tunneling.

Trim the wick before every burn

Keep the wick around ¼ inch long. A long wick creates smoke, flickering flames, and faster wax burn, while a trimmed wick gives a clean, steady flame and longer candle life.

Let the first burn melt evenly

Allow the wax to melt fully across the top surface during the first use. This prevents “tunneling,” where the candle burns down the center and wastes wax along the sides.

Avoid drafts and fans

Air movement causes uneven burning and dripping. A still environment helps the candle burn evenly and keeps the fragrance consistent.

Don’t burn too long at once

Limit each burn to about 3–4 hours. Overheating can reduce fragrance strength, warp the container, and shorten the candle’s lifespan.
